Marketing isn't always straightforward.

Whether you're a budding entrepreneur or a seasoned business leader, consistent marketing and sales are essential for sustainable growth. Every business is unique, requiring a tailored approach. But in today's fast-paced digital age, navigating the complexities of marketing can be overwhelming.

Are you faced with any of these challenges?

    • Unclear Goals: Many businesses struggle to define clear marketing objectives and goals.

    • Ineffective Branding: Weak brand identity and inconsistent messaging can hinder growth.

    • Poor Targeting: Misunderstanding the target audience can lead to wasted resources and low ROI.

    • Budget Mismanagement: Allocating marketing funds without a clear strategy can lead to poor ROI.

    • Overspending on Ineffective Channels: Investing in channels that don't deliver results can drain resources.

    • Underutilization of Resources: Not fully leveraging available resources can limit marketing potential.

    • Lack of Marketing Skills: Many businesses don't have the in-house expertise to handle complex marketing tasks.

    • Time Constraints: Busy business owners may not have the time to dedicate to marketing efforts.

    • Difficulty Keeping Up with Trends: The ever-evolving marketing landscape can be challenging to navigate.

    • Low Lead Generation: Difficulty attracting and converting potential customers.

    • Declining Sales: Struggling to maintain or increase sales revenue.

    • Ineffective Campaign Tracking: Inability to measure the impact of marketing efforts.

    • Market Saturation: Intense competition can make it difficult to stand out.

    • Price Wars: Engaging in price wars can erode profit margins.

    • Customer Acquisition Challenges: Difficulty attracting and retaining customers.

    • Not Understanding the Buyer’s Journey: this leads to ineffective messaging and sales materials.

Poor Communication: These integral teams aren’t meeting or collaborating consistently and don’t truly understand each other’s needs and limitations.

Different goals and priorities: Marketing is often focused on brand & lead gen while sales is focused on short-term revenue targets.

It all began with a junior role at a sports marketing company owned by Dennis Conner, a San Diego-based yachtsman and three-time winning America’s Cup skipper.  It was there that I met Diane – a bubbly, chain-smoking, brunette with a passion for sailing. She knew a thing or two about marketing and was my very first mentor. I began to see the possibilities that a career in marketing had and it felt like a natural fit.

A few years later, I was working for a startup consumer electronics company. Here I would find seasoned mentors and spend 10 years under their guidance. The company went from annual $1M in revenue with one product to over 150 products and $100M during that time. With such rapid growth, there was no shortage of opportunities to grow. It was there that I learned about the powerful impact marketing can make in growing a business. I also learned I could do hard things – and that doing them with humble, supportive colleagues is where I find the most happiness.

I’ve been in love with marketing ever since.

I went on to work in financial services when digital marketing tactics and technologies were emerging as a new way to reach prospects and nurture customers.

It was an exciting time of change. It was there that I learned good marketing doesn’t stop at the top of the funnel. Excellence in marketing goes beyond awareness and lead acquisition. It engages and retains users and employees and transforms them into brand ambassadors.

For the last twelve years, I have worked in the healthcare and health tech industries leading the best of growth marketing strategies to improve demand generation performance and brand equity. In more than one instance, I have helped companies revive a stagnant approach and breathe new life into their marketing efforts.

Today, I am focused more than ever on simplifying the complex. Marketing doesn’t have to be complicated, difficult or expensive. But many companies make major mistakes that box them into this triad of frustration. Let me help you simplify your marketing efforts.

A Few Words About Leadership

As a marketing leader and fellow marketer, I’m passionate about mentoring and collaborating with my team. I believe in leading by example, rolling up my sleeves, and actively participating in the work. But true leadership isn’t about one person doing it all; it’s about building a team that works together towards a shared vision.

I’m committed to guiding and supporting teams, but I also encourage every person to step up and take ownership of their work and push themselves to develop and grow in ways they didn’t know they could. When we work together, we create something truly special. Let’s make the most of our collective strengths.

I’ve learned a lot about leadership through experience. I’ve made mistakes, but I’ve also grown from them. In this article, Balancing the Scales: A Leader’s Journey, I share my insights on balancing the demands of leadership and fostering a collaborative team environment.
